I wanted to share this with you all, my new friends....

I am a brand new LVN, passed boards in April. I started work as soon as I got my ATT at a beef packing plant as an occupational nurse. (I used to work there as a laborer cutting up meat!! :lol2:) Well, anyway, the charge nurse has worked there for many years and I respect her soo much. She is the "all business type" and it is rare for her to even crack a smile, much less laugh or offer a compliment. Well yesterday right before she left, (I work alone from 5pm to 1am) she put a small card on my desk. I asked her what it was, and she replied, "read it."

I opened it thinking it was a early birthday card..(my birthday is at the end of this month) but to my surprise it was a thank you card. To sum it up... the card said "Thank you" because I was doing super job and that I was to expect an increase in my salary or what she called it a "merit" raise. She said she was going to miss me when I go back to school this fall (to finish up my RN) and she was looking forward to welcoming me back as an RN and to expect another salary increase...

Needless to say, I was shocked. I never expected that!!! But you know.....(trying not to tear up!!!) What I feel like saying is this: I feel that I should be thanking her (my boss) for offering me the opportunity to do a job that I truely love. I still get the goosebumps when I learn something new from a patient... Like a "spidey sense", lol. I love, love, love being a nurse...and I want to end by saying....

I HOPE I always feel this way about being a nurse.... until the day I retire....

I HOPE........:nurse: Thanks for listening......

Congratulations on your LVN and best wishes on your RN studies.

With a wonderful nuturing mentor like your charge nurse,

you too will become a wonderful mentor to a new nurse.

You bet its possible, with the right job and the right staff

people its entirely possible.

Keep that radiant smile, your patients and employer are

so lucky!!!!!!!!!

Best wishes to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:balloons:

Thanks Jahra... It means alot!!!

You are welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just left nursing after 20 years of

adventure. If you have any questions, feel free to pm.

Don't forget to take good care of yourself, nursing is

energy depleting at times. The Health Stress forum is great.

We need to care for ourselves in order to give our best to others! ;)
