Hung my own blood! :-)

  1. I gave blood last month and I kept the paper that has the pint identifier on it. I got an e-mail the other day saying my blood was sent to the hospital I work at. What are the chances, I infused my own blood into my patient the other night (not that I would tell the patient). Small world, made me glad I could make a difference- in more ways than one.

Good thing they didn't have a reaction...then you'd freak out too like ahhhh what's wrong with my blood?!

Question - do they normally inform a donor WHERE the donated unit went to???

That is so awesome! As soon as I'm back on my feet donating is on my to-do list.

I did not receive any information in the past, but I haven't donated in a while.

That thought did cross my mind, but I didn't know it was my blood until the next day.

Cool. I wish I could donate blood---too much travel to too many places with too many vaccines, etc., etc......Anyway---I am always thankful when someone can donate. I hope to never need to receive. Thank you to all who give!

When I worked blood and marrow it always wanted to try and figure out which of my patients were likely to need transfusions in the coming days then go and direct donate to them. I traveled too much initially to donate, though, and then I got iron deficiency anemia. So much for that plan.

The title of this thread threw me off. I thought there was going to be a story about you were hanging blood on yourself..................

Yeah, your story makes much more sense.
