How many of you have had this dream???

Nurses General Nursing

As a new graduate, I would periodically have the classic dream that represented my feelings of ill-preparedness. In my dream, I would get to about 6pm in my shift and "realize" I had forgotten to write down my times of med administration on my "brains" (nurse pocket sheet or whatever it is called now). I would invariably awaken feeling panicked, wondering how many meds I had forgotten AND then I would realize that I was only dreaming. Still, it would take a little while for my heart to quit beating extra fast before I could settle down and go to sleep.

A friend told me she also had a version of this dream. Is this the "great, cosmic nurse dream" nightmare? Has anyone else out there had this dream or one similar to it?? Happily, the dream passes....

I was looking at old posts and this one REALLY jumped out at me!

Oh so many nights ive had this dream. I also have one where I am assigned a new patient and noone tells me about it until the end of the shift. And while I have these dreams I hear constant beeping, sounds like a pump or maybe a call light. BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP

Specializes in IMCU/Telemetry.

I had this dream when I was a new grad. I would always wake up thinking I forgot to do something for my Pt. . If I was still half asleep, I would try to figure out how to do it, even though I didn't know what I didn't do. It only lasted a few months until I was more sure of myself. I still laugh at it.

Specializes in ICU.

I fond myself out of bed one day after night duty pressing the wall tring to get the "pump" to stop beeping. It was actually a truck across the road reversing going "BEEP BEEP BEEP".:imbar :D

I have not worked in over a year due to health problems and will never work in nursing again, but I have this dream 4 out of 7 nights. I wake up in a cold sweat with my heart pounding. It is unreal. I am so glad that I am not the only one that does this.

I haven't had this dream, but when I was studying for the NCLEX I had a dream that had me in tears.

I dreamed that I was sitting in front of the computer to take the NCLEX and when the questions came up it was some strange language. I was just sitting there and everyone else was getting finished and walking out. In my dream I was crying and was crying when I woke up too.

Specializes in ORTHOPAEDICS-CERTIFIED SINCE 89.

Yes me too. A variation is there is a whole hallway of rooms behind the nurses station that only *I* know about.

(I think that was a plot line in Cherry Ames, Student Nurse....) anyway I am suposed to do something there. Now it's been 29 years since I graduated and 3 years since I've worked. Im just like Disablednurse......never be able to work again....the dream must mean something. Unfulfilled desires?

And I hear the beep of pumps all the time.
