How many days/hours do you work per week. For those of you who work in a hospital do you have to work a lot of weekends?

I work every 8th weekend (well, supposed to, but we have a nurse at work that goes to school during the week and works every weekend she can get). I work 40-60 hours a week.

I work 1-12 hour shift and 3-8 hour shifts a week, alternating between days and evenings. I'm required to work every other weekend, but can easily get one off if needed, just might have to work extra somewhere else. Our administrator does our scheuling and trys very hard to honor requested days off.

i work 3 12s a week. used to be required to work 40 hours a week -- which worked out to 20 12 hour shifts in six weeks, with two weekends required. life is much nicer without those two extra shifts!

I work 5 - 8 hour shifts. 1pm-9pm 3-11 or 4-12
On call every 6-7th weekend (One day only) for 24hours. This can be a VERY long day cause your the only nurse in the PACU and have to do everything.
It works for me. I LOVE the job. Not too stressful b/c we have lots of staff.

I work 3 twelve hour day shifts a week and every other weekend. Works for me, I'll never give up my shift! But like others have said, you can get any type of shift you want, if you're flexible with what type of nursing you go into. Good luck!

i also work four 10-hour shifts per week, and rarely weekends, unless i am on-call. there is nearly always an opportunity for overtime, and i've worked as much as 56 hours in one week. there have always been a small group of attendings that would like to do weekend elective surgery, but their push for it is sporadic, and it's pretty rare to do them. we have teams that will do the weekends for time and a half.

I work one weekend a month. I work primarily night shift (by choice). also by choice work 4 12 hour shifts. I typically work M, T, W, Th 7p-7a with a three day weekend. I make OT on that extra shift and our differential for nights is awesome (7 dollars an hour for week nights!!!)
