How long for venipuncture to heal?

I can't seem to get a definitive answer on this one but it seems like a pretty easy question... hopefully you all can help me! how long does it take for a peripheral IV stick (a missed one) to heal up so that it can be attempted again? Or what about a site that ran its 72hr course and was discontinued (scheduled DC), how long before that site can be re-used?
Thanks!

It takes the dermis of a superficial skin cut takes approximately 7 days to heal over. That includes a missed IV stick. I would not re-use a d/c'd IV site during the same hospitalization. There are enough veins in both arms that another site can be found. This is also why IV sites should be started as low in the arms as possible and then worked upward.
