How do you deal with mean Nurses?

I work at a hospital that most of the RN's look down on me because of me getting a BSN and be a male. How do I deal with that?

seriously, they need to get over it, and so do you. just let them know to talk to you the same way they would like to be talked to. sometimes people don't know that and you have to actually spell it out for them. take it to management if all else fails, and just try to ignore most of it. a lot of it could be jealousy, so what can you do? post back if anything changes

Sorry you're not being treated well. I :heartbeat male nurses!

Thank you for your support and I will keep everyone informed after graduation in Dec if things change. I really think they are set in there old ways of thinking and that Me having a BSN; I will be there boss. I told them I am a team player and if I was there Boss that I look good when they do Good and I would give all praise to my staff for hard work and not to myself for management. Team there is not and I in Team.

Did they actually tell you that, or are you making an assumption?:confused:

NO they really told me that.

They sound petty and insecure. I guess there's nothing you can do other than act professional.

That and remember they've been doing it for a long time and you can learn from them. If you show them you respect their knowledge and experience, most likely they'll be happy to share it with you. Their experience is something you don't have yet.

In time they'll come to an understanding that you're okay. But you have to not remind them you've got the BSN, also. They already know that.

Respect is a two way street. It must be earned, not just given. Good luck to you (and them!)

I have learned not to care so much what other people think of you (good or bad). Take it with a grain of salt. You cant please everyone. Your there to do a job. Just do whats best for you. They will get over it.

Do you around telling them that you are going to be their Boss? If you are that might be why they are 'mean' to you.

How do you know that you will be their Boss? Have you been promised a position or something? More education doesn't always equal better nursing.

You need to try and ignore them! they are the ones who have the complex!

Good luck with everything!

PLEASE tell me you did not say that to them??? Are you a nurse yet? Have you passed your boards??? Let me say if I told that by a student "I will be your boss and I will praise you for all the hard work you do", I would choke on my coffee.

We had one student who was in a BSN program who was soooo sooo braggy about when she graduates she will get a day shift job, or she will be on the road to mgmt etc etc etc. Well she never could pass her boards. She now works as an Admin assistant answering phones, with a Bachelors in Nursing.

Respect can only be earned.

~~~I just looked at your prior postings and your still in school, you have not even finished yet alone sat for NCLEX yet, you want respect--sounds like you need to give respect for those who have completed and are actually working as nurses~~~You can learn alot from a working nurse.
I dont think we will hear back from the orginal poster, I think he was just trying to get his 15 posts in so he can email suzanne for her study guide tips on how to pass NCLEX
