Hello everyone. I am a Licensed Registered nurse in New York, i graduated in Dec 2009 with my ADN, i have been looking for work since i received my license in April and have no luck. All i want to know is what should i do to retain my knowledge. I am slowly losing the things i learned in school, although i frequently review my Med Surg book i just wanted some ideas on other ways to review.

Taking classes. You might not need your CEU's yet but take classes that have your board of nursing provider numbers many are offered on-line.

You can try websites like: http://cme.medscape.com/

Otherwise, whenever there is something to do that I don't know how to do, I will ask to watch (in the facility, I mean)

READ, READ, READ. 24/7 books, journals, internet, even TV (which is viewing, not reading, but interesting and informative)

I too am a new grad with no job and no prospects, and I returned to school for my BSN, I also read my notes and watch real life medical shows on TV, like life in the ER, etc, I am afraid of the same thing, by the time we get jobs I won't remember anything, it's not the theory, its the clinical things that scare me, i was trying to remember the steps for open suctioning the other night and had to hit my notes.

Specializes in LTC currently.
