Hospital Jobs for future Nurses

  1. I am looking to get a job in a hospital while I go through nursing school. I am starting this fall. I wanted to get in to get some extra experience and have good connections. I want to do this so I can get in the ICU as soon as I can. What jobs can I do. I was looking at the nurse's tech position, but doesnt that require some sort of experience.

I if you have your CNA then you can work at a hospitial doing that, my other suggestions are in the lab as a phlebotomist, or as a ward secretary. I am a ward clerk AKA ward seccretary. I have had A LOT of experiences and made a lot of really good connections. I too am interested in working in ICU here at my hospitial and the 3 recomendtions that I sent in along with my nursing school application were all 3 ICU nurses! GOOD LUCK!

You really need to check with the Human Resource Dept at the particular hospital you're interested in. That would be the best place to get a definative answer to your question. You may be able to work as a CNA (certified nurses assistant). I want to say there is a 6 wk certification class you can take for CNA work. I believe this is what a CNA I used to work with told me. I'm not absolutely positive about that though.

at hospitals in my area you can work as a nursing assistant after your finished fundamentals. i have recently applied for a student nurse assistant position. all they require is a letter of recommendation from a faculty member, completion of fundamentals and BLS.

what you can do in a hospital setting depends on the hospital itself. a lot in my area hire nurse techs as long as they are enrolled in a nursing program. some smaller hospitals you can work as a nursing assistant without certification. it is worth checking into. the exposure will only help. best wishes. good luck in nursing school.

I worked as a Unit Secretary while I was in school. Also after you do 1-2 clinical rotations many hospitals will allow you to work as a tech.

I applied to a local hospital for a position as a Unit Secretary, but havent heard back yet. There are not really any other positions available to someone with no experience yet. When it says FT and also weekend shift what do they mean? Do they mean 12 hr shifts fri sat and sun? Also to work as a secretary say in the Radiology dept of a hospital what experience would I need?
