Help...what can I expect?

  1. Hello all

I have a "group interview with HR" at a local hospital for a nurse extern position. I have never participated in a group interview and I have absolutely no idea what to expect. Does anyone have any insight they can share with me? I want to be as prepared as I possibly can. I'm soooooooo nervous right now....AAAHHHH!!!!

    Thanks everyone! :spin:

I am not familiar with the "group interview" process. Hopefully someone can help.

I feel that externs should be familiar with the mission of the facility. Also, think about your answer to possible interview questions. For example, Why Nursing? What do you expect to gain from the externship? How will the facility benefit from choosing you as an extern? etc...

Good luck. You are doing the right thing, by informing yourself.

Don't know if this will help or not, but I had a "group interview" a few months ago .... I had to face the nurse manager, two of the patient care coordinators, one of the RNs and an LPN. I tell you I was so nervous I almost threw up on my shoes

They took turns asking me questions that ranged from the general (educational background, why I was applying for the position, what skills I would bring), clinical judgement and assessment skills (what I would do for a patient with XXXX, how I would handle a difficult patient/physician/team member), to what my future goals and aspirations were.

i wish i could be more specific, but its all a blur now.

Wear something that makes you feel good, take an extra copy of two of your resume, smile, shake hands, and be confident in your own ability.... and good luck!

Depends what type of group interview it is... but if its the type I think, I've been briefed on what my collegues went through.

Basically we have gradings here and the D grades are newly qualified or junior nurses, the E grades are senior staff nurses. They all went into interview together for the E and F (nurse in charge post) grade. They were paired off to see how their communication skills were, prepared a presentation and presented on it, all watched by the interviewers. Apparently it worked very well as everyone found their place in the presentation and worked together.

I've only ever had one to one interviews with two or three interviewers, I think I prefer it that way (not to scare you!), but the group interview seemed to put alot of nervous interviewees at ease

Thank you all for your help and insight. I went on the internet and found a bunch of interview questions that might be asked. I'm going to go over those and hope for the best! I'll let you know it goes....:spin:
