I'm taking the hospice certification exam tomorrow. I am unclear on some things like methadone conversions. Can anyone tell me what the methadone/morphine conversion is. I think its 1mg :1.5mg, but that doesn't seem right to me. I've been studying on and off all day and I'm beginning to get nervous. Also, what is the standard demerol to morphine ratio. I know I'm going to have to convert these drugs on the test. In real life, I have standing orders that we use but the conversions vary depending on the resource used. Any extra tips would be appreciated.

Wish I could be of help but I don't know the answers. Just wanted to suggest that you post this on the "hospice" board also. You might get an answer there.

Good luck!

Thanks, I have. No response as of yet. I hope that it means I shouldn't worry about it. I think I'll do fine regardless. Positive attitude can't hurt, right?

Good luck on the test!! Tell us how it goes. :kiss

Big nice squeezy hugs to you all. I survived. The test wasn't that bad. Actually, I walked out feeling like I aced it and after conferring with my colleges, I may have missed more than I initially anticipated. But I will be surprised if I didn't pass the darn thing. Not many drug conversion questions (naturally, as that is mostly what I was worried about). That would have been too easy-you know with cut and dry calculations and formulas. In the first 5 minutes of the exam I quickly remembered those tests in nursing school. You know the ones-with two right answers. Figuring which answer is best according to the info provided in the question without reading into it or comparing it to personal experience. Basically trying to decide what answer "they"want was the hardest part of the test. Not many drug questions (I studied and memorized the generic names that I'm not so familiar with). Overall, I think I did okay. I'll let you guys know when I find out. I was told it could be up to six weeks. Thanks for the support!
