Help! Need advice for my sick husband! his temp is 105!

Hi, my husband has been running a fever of 105 today. I came home from work to find him on the couch with a thick blanket on him. I immediately took the blanket and made him get in a luke warm bath. Well that was 3 hrs ago and his fever is still 102. I don't know what to do! I have a wet washcloth on him and have been checking on him. I am only letting him use a sheet to cover up with and have been taking his temp every 30 min. I just want to ask everyone that is already a nurse what else I can do. I just feel that taking him to the hospital is dumb if I am able to help him here at home. I mean, what else can really be done? except give him antibiotics if its bacterial. (which I think it is) I have had a really loose gurgally cough for about 3 weeks now and It started with laryngitis and then became the cough. I felt bad but I still worked and went to school. But I don't think my fever was 105! But my daughter ended up catching it and she got a fever of 105 but I was able to break hers w/in like 2 hrs. I did have to put her in the bathtub 2 times that night but she was fine the next day. But I guess I just kinda answered my own question. I guess I should take him to the hospital if it doesn't break so that they can start antibiotics. If that is right or if anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it. Thanks everyone!

Just a few thoughts.

1) I do not give medical consultation or opinion here. It's outside my scope of practice. Plus, it's against the TOS. Any advice you do get should be considered "friendly advice" just as a neighbor would give.

2) That being said, any fever that spikes high and doesn't respond to Tylenol, Advil, or passive cooling measures is cause for concern and should be evaluated by a medical professional as soon as possible.

In other words, if it were my family member, I'd be on the way to the hospital.

we really cannot give out any type of medical advice, per terms of service.

if you suspect it is bacterial, then tx should begin asap.
i strongly suggest you call a doctor.

best of everything.

ER now, not even a question in my mind about it. What would it hurt you to be safe rather than sorry later? Take care, hope he gets better, get going!!

Thanks you guys for the posts. Sorry I usually don't ask personal nursing questions but this site came to mind when nothing else would. I have already been a member so I know that its not the usual. But I went and checked my husbands temp. and its still 101. I told him that we should go to the hospital but he is refusing. Ugh! Its so much easier with my 2 yr old daughter! I just put her in the car and go. But at this point I am worried with what ur telling me and I don't know what to do. He is so stubborn! He didn't even want to get into the bath earlier but I somehow convinced him by asking for an hour. I just wish I knew how urgent it really is b/c I need to find someone to come sit here so my daughter can sleep. and its already 11 pm. so jeez! She just went to bed and i don't want to drag her to the ER and I cant convince him! I am so frustrated!!! Thanks for your "friendly advice" very nice of you to take your time in responding. I would ask someone else but I don't have anyone else to ask and the hospital near by doesn't have a nurse line to call. But I don't want to be up all night worrying. UGH!!! I am so exhausted!!! Now I feel selfish! Its really a no win right now! lol...

Why would you even ask? REASON = HOSPITAL in this situation! Unless, of course, you produce your own abx and have a private laboratory!

Did common sense die? This is about as bad as some triage calls I get.....

I do hope he will be fine.
