Hi I need your advice

Today I was offered a position at a Dr Office and I was given a saliva drug screening (rapid test) and I passed, but i had to give blood today and i didnot ask what it was for becuase i didnt think anything of it. Im just a little worried becuase on saturday evening(today is monday) I took one of my husband generics for percocet for this unberable pain i had in my back. I dont know if shes doing a blood test for drugs or something else. I just wanted to know if anybody knows the average half life of oxycodone I did some reaserch and the internet says it can be an average of 4 -5 hours but im unsure and also do you guys know what employers test for when they do a blood test. I'm so nervous and need some advice

thanks

Cindy, I would strongly suggest that if you have very bad back pain, that you not take any job that is going to exacerbate it. You can take someone else's pain killers to hide it or ur own, but with the rigours of nursing, you will get caught out one day. I'm also thinking of patient safety when doing transfers - if your back gives out and you end up dropping a patient, you will be in serious difficulties. And you can't not squat, bend, transfer patients etc in nursing.

If it was me, I'd be getting the back pain looked at, and would not be considering nursing. Trust me, I know a friend who ignored her back pain, went into nursing and midwifery and she was miserable to be around, is now hooked on narc's - I can't even stand to be around her anymore so don't see her. It is so incredibly sad when people get hooked on narc's - and they can't even see how it's affecting the ones around them who love them.

I hope you feel better soon.

This is interesting. If I had horrible pain I would probably take a pain pill from my husband if I couldn't get in to see the doctor. I would never actually think of going to the ER because it would not nbe an emergency in my mind if I wrenched my back or whatever.

I have sympathy for the OP in this situation. Seems a shame to have to think about being labelled a drug abuser and having to deal with the BON and all that if it is just a one time thing like this.

Hope it all turns out well for you OP.

A lot of the hospital systems around me due hair samples for drug screening!

Suggest OP seek medical attention.

We cannot advise about half-life to circumvent drug testing and/or advise as what to do in this situation.
