Heart murmurs - what is PND?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

While I read about mitral regurgitation - the subjective data includes fatigue, palpitations, orthopnea and PND. While I read about murmurs due to valvular defects and mitral stenosis - the subjective data includes - occasional PND or pulmonary edema? What is PND? When I check around, I see PND as postnatal depression? What does it mean when discussing heart murmurs?

Thanks.

postnasal drip was the first thing that came to mind,

then I thought - nah - somehow I don't think so,

then I searched and found postnatal depression, that didn't seem to fit either,

so I figured it better to ask here, because this is the place where people know!!

thanks!

Glad I could help.

You know abbreviations can be confusing and have multiple meanings (eg: BS = can be breath sounds or bowel sounds). Really depends on the context in which the abbreviation is being used.

What it means to have PND is to suddenly wake up at night short of breath. It would fit with having heart failure or pulmonary edema.
