My SIL is Graduating next week. I am looking for a practical gift idea. She is going to be a RN and we are going to the pinning ceremony. Her Mom is getting her a stethoscope and shoes. I need some clever ideas. Let me know what you appreciated getting when your first started.
Thanks in advance

Gift certificate to nursing store; scrubsets; waterproof watch with standard and military time; tote bag -- can fill with goodies such as miniflashlight, umbrella, etc; nursing clipboard with calculator. Check out the JASCO website. Your a thoughtful SIL.

A gift certificate at a book store or web book store. :-)

I received an anatomy Atlas (by Netter, it's the best) and a medical dictionnary that I both still use very often ... and I graduated 11 years ago.

I love my clipboard with attached calculator.
Gift certs for uniform shop, blood pressure cuff with carrying case, a pack of black ink pens. I hate the "pen on a string." I always end up with ink all over my shirt, or they just don't write very well.

How about an IV drug book? There's one by Gahart that I LOVE. It's invaluable... but be sure to get the one by GAHART. There is NO SUBSTITUTE! :)
Also, an ER/Critical Care Checkmate is really nice. They come with a calculator, and have all kinds of info about drugs and drips, ACLS algorithms, etc. You don't have to work Critical Care or ER to use one of these...

All of the aforementioned ideas are WONDERFUL!!
After all the hard work, studying, STRESS of Nursing School... how about a Gift Certificate for a night out or a massage??
::wistful sigh::
Peace:)

Oooh, good one. A massage or a full-service pedicure. After years of being a student, she'd probably have a hard time spending money so "frivolously" on herself, but what a great gift!

Thabers? As in Thapler? (From Office Space)
Or do you mean Taber's?

I cherish my cadeuces charm that I got from my parents. I also bought my RN grad friend a nice pin watch with Laura, RN engraved on it.
