Graduation Gift Ideas Please - page 2
My SIL is Graduating next week. I am looking for a practical gift idea. She is going to be a RN and we are going to the pinning ceremony. Her Mom is getting her a stethoscope and shoes. I need... Read More
Apr 30, '02A pedicure? Skip it, give toenail clippers and go for the massage! How about a six pack? Seriously though, a basket full of candles, bath salts lotion etc. Or a gift certificate to a bookstore. I couldn't wait to read for pleasure.
Apr 30, '02One of the best gifts I ever got was a Sensa pen with a gel-filled ergonomic grip. They write without skips, blobs or smears, they write upside down and they even write underwater!!! (I tried it) They are sold at Things Remembered stores, and they have a smaller sized version now called the Minx (I think). After I recieved mine, I bought one for each of my siblings as they graduated and they love them too. When initially looking at the price tag, it seems awfully expensive for a pen, I know, but I assure you mine is PRICELESS. My fingers do not get sore and cramped after reams of charting, and the store can engrave them. My secod favorite gift is a watch by Timex that has military time, a second hand, and a push button setting that flashes the indiglo light at 15, 30, 45 and 60 second intervals so you can count pulse rates in the dark.
Apr 30, '02I found a good book called, "Your first year as a nurse."
Got it at Barnes and Nobles...not sure of the author off the top of my head, but there are several of these books for different kinds of professions, so it's probably not too hard to find.
All the other ideas sound great!
Apr 30, '02I would highly recommend the following book for any nurse... orgraduate. I have purchased it for many of my nursing friends (all loved it). It's available in many bookstores.. including many of the online stores.
The book is entitled: Florence Nightingale: Mystic, Visionary, Healer -- by Barbara Montgomery Dossey; Hardcover
It's a GREAT gift!
Apr 30, '02The book mentioned above by ERNurse was written by Donna Wilk Cardillo, RN. It is an excellent book. I wish it had been available when I joined this wonderful profession back in 1997. I'll be celebrating my 5th year as an RN this year.
The gift cert. to a uniform store is a great idea. As each institution has different requirements for nurse attire, she could use the certificate to get the required uniforms when she gets her first job!
What a great sister-in-law you are!
May 1, '02WOW, you guys are awesome. Thanks for all the great ideas.
I really do appreciate it. I think I am leaning toward putting a package together. Maybe a bag she could carry to work and put different things in it. such as; clipboard, pens, books, watch etc.
Many many thanks,
