Hi, I am away from work for 2.5 years to raise my daughter and I am ready to go back. I continued my CE's and licenses and BLS, ACLS.... Applied to the hospitals but they are ready to hire "better candidate than me"

I ended up getting a homehealth job with a very low pay. I am ready to do it... but with a home health experience do you think I will ever get a Hospital job??? Also I read here there is a job board where we can upload our resume to get hired. Where is it and how to add it?? Thanks in Advance.

Sorry, don't know about the job board yet...but wanted to say that maybe you will like home health. It does have some advantages. You can sort of make your own schedule in many cases. For me, it was not as stressful as hospital work. Good luck!

Mine is 3 to 11pm and fixed shift.... for only one pt and it is hourly pay and pay is way low... so I do not have fexibility ... but the only thing here that I am taking care of only one pt....

Significant gaps are a hindrance even when the reason is truly logical.

Home health for an agency can lead to VNA (Visiting Nurses Assoc) which in my area pays quite well, and those who do it seem to enjoy it.

If you're ADN consider doing a transitional ADN > BSN, if your BSN consider doing a BSN > Masters degree. The reason is when you graduated well, "I just graduated...." Voila! Gap gone.

G'luck and welcome back.

I have my BSN. Mine is 3 to 11 job and the pay is very low I made more than in 2008 as a new grad. I know it is very stressless job but with that pay it is very hard to live....

Just a question...Why did you take the job if it does not pay enough? You say they want to hire a "better candidate than me" ? Ok..then make yourself a better candidate. The hospital has the right to hire anyone they want. If you are not meeting what they want then you need to ask them what they are looking for and do it. Forget if the home health will help you get the job unless you are TOLD it will by the HR people where you want to work. Ask them what they are looking for and why you are not what they are looking for. Get specifics why you are not a "good candidate" and then rectify those issues.

HI, I ma not a good candidate as I took break from work and raised my kid. That is the reason I have a gap in my career. I cannot change that. This is the specific reason I am not a "good candidate". I think you did not understand my question and my situation. Why I took the job though it is not paying me enough???? Making something is better than making nothing.... I do not know or do not want ot know what is your financial situation but making $30/hr is much better than stay home and wait for 100$/hr job.... that is what I believe... and based on my financial situation!!! Before this gap, I never had problem to get a job... I alwasy had 4 to 5 offers when I tried to change it. Thanks for your comments.

I was in the same situation. I returned through a smaller local nursing agency.

They sent me to a couple of hospitals, both wanted to hire me. Your private duty job should be paying you close to the hourly rate you would get in the hospital setting.

No need to be defensive. No one is denigrating you for staying home to raise your child. They are just explaining the reality of the current job market.
