general nursing service corp????

-jt kindly posted an excellent article about the nursing shortage. In it someone suggested extablishing a "general nursing service corp". I am clueless about what this would entail. Does anyone know??

I have heard people discussing something like the Peace Corps for Nurses. That you would give back to the government a certain period of time working for their designee and in turn get your education fees reimbursed. I believe that some physicians have a similar program. I know that a LOT of them have come and gone from our small town (very poor, very rural) in exchange for loan forgiveness.
