I went to a college today and walked up and down and all around in my nice black shoes!! Now I have what looks like a blister on my foot by my big toe. The problem is that I am a diabetic and I don't want it to get infected!! How should I clean/treat it?

I am also a diabetic (type I). If I ever saw a blister or anything on my foot I would see the doctor the very same day! When sores don't heal and get infected it can lead to serious stuff like amputation. I want to stay intact and I would not mess around.

I think I will go tomorrow. It doesn't look bad but I don't want to take the chance!! Do you know anything about the phlebotomy class they have at TSTC? Or, do you know of any others?

Steph:)

I had a blister removed from my foot that turned into an abcess. I was on 1 week of IV Ancef and one week of IV Rochepin. I just wanted to say whatever you do, do not pop the blister! Let it pop on its own. These type of infections can be easiely spread to your bone and give you bone infection. Take care, Curleysue

Last Tuesday I had a blister on the bottom of my foot that popped while I was walking home. Thursday I came down with a nasty case of cellulitis in my leg.

I've been on IV Ancef daily ever since. It's amazing what one little blister can do. :scrying:

Stephera, What ever came of that blister by your great toe? Did you see the MD? Were there any problems? Please let us know what happened. My husband is a diabetic on insulin (novolog TID & lantus 55 units QHS). Although I care for his feet from cleaning (due to spinal injury) to nail clipping & dealing with ingrown nails he has never had a problem with his feet. I realize he has been lucky but he is noncompliant and getting him to see a MD for his feet would never happen. That's probably why 2yrs ago (at 39yrs old) he had "at least 2MI's" (Per MD) and severe CHF, which is now chronic. He still won't listen. Anyway Please let us know what happened to you. I really am concerned. Rhonda
