Hey all,

I'm wondering what it takes to become a flight nurse? Do the pre-requisites differ from state to state or company to company? What do most of you find are the "average" pre requisites? I'm thinking of possibly moving to the ER or the ICU in the next year or so, which would give me the better experience to prepare for flight nursing?

I have 5 years of experience in ground EMS, so I think that may help my case somewhat, just looking for more information.

Thanks.

It varies from state to state, company to company. You will need to check with companies in the area you wish to work. It is a hard field to break into, but very rewarding from what I understand. Good luck!

Please look in the flight nurse forum on this site. This question is frequently asked and answered and there is nothing new to add. You can also look at http://www.flightweb.com where you will find the same information.

In my area ICU experience is preferred over ER experience. Obviously it could be different where you live.
