First steps into the Hospital.... As exited as you are, please no running

I just received a volunteer postion in Pre Op at a hospital. I begin training Sunday but I was just wondering if anyone had any advice or information on what I can expect. I am so excited, as an EMT and pre-nursing student these will be my first steps into the hospital (other than as a patient). I was also curious as to why Pre Op is often called Op Su?
Thanks for any information you can send my way.
