First or last name on stethoscope?

I'm starting nursing school in August, and my dad is getting me a Littmann Cardio III, so I got one of those name tags to put on it in an effort to keep it from getting lost/swiped. My whole name won't fit on the engravable plate, and I'm curios what I should put on there. Just initials? First initial with last name? First name with last initials? Is one more appropriate/professional than the others? The real problem is that I have a hyphenated (super long) last name, but I guess I could just pick one to put on there as they won't both fit.

I know that I'm making an issue out of something that is truly a nonissue, but I'm pretty anxious to start school, and I would really appreciate any input.

I put my first initial, full last name with RN after. Keep a hawk-eye on that stethoscope! That's a beautiful and expensive scope. I had an inexpensive scope for school and bought a NICE one as a graduation present to myself :-)

I had my first and last name engraved on my stethoscope. As far as clients knowing my last name, I don't think they are looking that hard at my stethoscope to read the name. Do whatever you feel comfortable with.

I got the Littman SE II in raspberry with the rainbow bell, engraved with my full name, a cross and a heart. That way when I rip it off whoever's neck that stole it, there won't be any mistaking it's mine. :cautious:

I have the same stethoscope. The raspberry and gold is so cute. I have 2 hearts and my full name.

substitute Caribbean blue for raspberry and a star for a cross and I did the same thing!

Get a GPS on it. All of my stethoscopes grew legs and wandered off. It is so depressing to think that my co-workers steal, but they do. Now I use they cheap-o stethoscopes the Hospital provides.

I have never lost a stethoscope, mine has no name on it but I am unflinchingly rigid about my rules. It is around my neck, or in my ears at all times. I rarely let people borrow, and if I do, they don't leave my sight. I have seen many people get burned!
