You're right...I was being slightly sexist and I apologize to all female zombies. Nipple twist?

Actually, a hard shove directly to the breast can be quite painful. You'd want to use knuckles or the base of your palm, something bony and sharp. My baby is an expert.

Am I completely alone in my fear of zombies as a nurse?

Nope. Zombies have scared the bejeezus out of people for as long as the stories have been around....and they have been around for a LONG, LONG time.

Zombies interfere with the normal order of things. People die...they're supposed to stay dead, if they don't....well...bad things usually happen if you ask hollywood. MOST people are afraid of them... just about all of us going to see those movies...which are some of the most popular and most successful ever....so the answer is NO...you are not alone....

The difference is that MOST people do not work in a profession where death and dead people...are part of the job...and unlike vampires...that always seem to look like supermodels that were "changed" in the prime of life...the dead people in the hospital are usually older, pretty worn around the edges, tired, grey, sunken eyes, bad teeth etc...you get the idea....heck...some of them are pretty scary when they are ALIVE!!

Hmmm, is there something is the DSM for fear of zombies? Seems like there should be, with their proliferation throughout popular culture in the last 40+ years. Couple that with the innate human fear of death, and maybe some bad experiences in the past, and yeah, I can see how an irrational fear would develop. Of the big two pop-culture undead, I've always thought that zombies made better monsters than vampires. Vampires were complex and nearly human-like with emotional complexity;you can reason with them. Zombies just want brains...

With that said, I'm a hospice nurse and deal with dead people in very creepy environments; middle of the woods in northern Michigan, a single-wide trailer, full moon, foggy, and a bunch of, um, lower SES individuals more interested in who jacked the Roxanol than the fact that their parent just died. Yeah, sounds like the setting for a horror movie, doesn't it? I generally don't get creeped out, but sometimes its hard not to... Although, in general I'm more concerned about the live bodies than the dead ones...
