I just completed my BSN and one of my electives was Contemporary Film. We had to watch 12 preselected movies each of which had a healthcare theme. "Wit" was not one of those movies, but we watched it in another class. That was a wonderful movie. I have tried to rent it several times but it's always out. I went to the library thinking they would have it but somebody stole it :roll Do you know where I can buy it?

Specializes in LTC/Peds/ICU/PACU/CDI.

the one where robin williams plays the psychiatrists & robert denero (sp?) plays the patient with i think als or lock-in-syndrome. i love that nurse who assists robin williams...i forget her name though.

when i was in nursing school, we had to watch a short film called "handmaidens." it was a wonderful film. won a bunch of awards at some film festival. if you can find it, i would highly recommend seeing it.

i have to say i loved meet the parents. i heard that the president of ana, sent a nasty letter saying that it was degrading to nurses. don't know how true that rumor is...but it was a hilarious movie. :chuckle

matt...i think ive seen meet the parents a million times...there are so many funny references to his being a nurse that most lay people miss...for example, when he comes down to breakfast and the two doctors are sitting at the table...someone asks him why he wasnt a doctor and he was going to tell them that doctors are assholes but his fiancee changed the subject...lol

i liked when he met the ex fiancee and greg told him that he was "in the medical field" so jack says ...greg is a nurse...like its something to be ashamed of for a man...

but my favorite part was at the very end when jack was asking greg if he would support his daughter like she should be supported ...like wedding vows, and he adds....would you consider another profession...lol

i dont have a favorite movie or book but i think my fav tv nurse was dixie from that old paramedics show...what was that called?

squad 51..it was the only paramedic unit that answered calls...everyone called squad 51...oh i know it was called EMERGENCY (i think)

dixie was the only nurse in the ER. there were a couple of docs and once in while there was a bimbo nurse who assisted dixie...but dixie was the NURSE... she always looked perfect...she had a great relationship with all guys..lol...she did everything and she knew everything.

Let me see, what was the name of the nurse Chloris Lichman played in the Mel Brooks movie High Anziety? I was not at the least bit put off by the portrayal. It was afterall a spoof.

Awakenings! I forget the nurses name too. She was on All In the Family alot!

I love the scene in Terms of Enderment when Shirley Mc Clain is freaking out on the nurses because it's past the time for her daughter to get MSO4. I'm thinking, "For crips sake! Why are you waiting to give that terminal patient the freakin' morphine!Sadist! ":chuckle

Did'nt think much of Nurse Betty. It almost made it seem like anyone could walk into our job.

Loretta Young in The Nun's Story...

Ooo, I got you Sleepy! It was Audry Hepburn in "A Nun's Story"

Excellent movie! Shows an autonomous nurse who's as smart as the doctors.

You 're right; I concede. I'm just totally amazed that someone else saw it and remembered it. Did you read the book?

I really felt she was a heroic character.
