We get to pay for own parking...buy our own shoes/uniforms and cannot write them off...buy own own coffee...not allowed to use the sugar and milk in the patient kitchens ( yes, they count spoons too) sounds like you're in a nice place!

I work in a gigantic county jail and we get free uniforms (includes socks, shoes, belts, shirts and pants), free monthly CEU's, and free meals while on duty. We also get some sick time given back to us in the form of vacation time once per year. The amount given back to you depends on how many times you called off sick the previous year. I think it is an excellent incentive to not call in sick. When an employee resigns or retires, they are paid 30% of their sick time in cash. The Sheriff gives us off 4 hrs of 'administrative leave' every year at Christmas. Overall, I'd say we have pretty darn good benefits (the pay ain't bad either).

our paychecks don`t bounce,does that count ?

  • Paid time off that doesn't cut into regular pto/sick time for when over-staffing occurs on the unit. If at the end of the year all of this time is not used, it converts to paid time off. (and I use it all the time!)

  • Abundant paid time off/sick time. We do not distinguish between sick time and paid time off so if you're never sick you end up with TONS of vacation/personal time off (usually we get the vacation we request as well.)

  • 40 hours paid educational time/yr and plenty of opportunity to use it! Our hospital has a education department dedicated to nursing classes/CEU's/etc.

  • Employer matched 401K (even if you don't decide to put anything in you still get at percentage of your income at retirement)

  • Free union bank accounts and low rate loans (mortgage/auto).

  • Tuition based training programs and tuition reimbursment.

  • A variety of Medical coverage plans.

  • Dental, vision, long term disability, state disability insurance, life insurance, and legal services (legal-for a small fee).

  • Malpractice and general (bought my own as well)

  • Tax-deferred annuity program.

  • Flexible spending program (pre-tax account for medical/dental/child or dependent care expenses)

  • Sabbatical assignments (get base wage rate and benefits for the duration of the sabbatical).

  • Jury duty (base wage rate while serving on a jury)

  • Discount tickets to DISNEYLAND!!!!

I'm sure I'm leaving something off, but just the same, all that and a decent wage to boot!! I so wish that everywhere in the US nurses were afforded the same opportunities and benefits! I feel spoiled but I don't feel bad...I deserve it, we ALL do!

We got a turkey at thanksgiving.........and no direct care providers laid off at the last round of cost-cutting measures!!

And they wonder why I am looking for a travel position!?

bob

Well, we get discounts at local things like theatres....but we have to pay a fee yearly. We get a monthly allowance for our cellphones which we have to use for work (not only for calls, but they are also our pagers)......we get approx 36$$ a month. My normal bill is 75$$ a month. Last month I was extra busy and my bill was 202$. (note: I do not use my phone for personal use).We get mileage...don't remember the exact amount. But I get around 14$ a week on my paycheck.......and usually gas up every 4 days on average, and it costs about 18-19$ to fill my tank. (Not to mention wear and tear).

Oh, BTW, I just left the field to work in office. Took a paycut, but figure I won't notice much, as the reimbursements I get do not come close to the expenses of being in the field.

One good thing. I do get vacation time. Not sure how much (can you imagine?)...because we are so busy, it's hard to find time to take it. I put in for September's vacation last month.

Hey Sally_ICURN, would you mind telling me what hospital you work at? Im thinking of doing my BSN work in san Francisco and your hospital sounds great!

Specializes in Med-Surg, Trauma, Ortho, Neuro, Cardiac.

We have barely sick for moms to bring in sick children

We actually have a certified private school grades k-3, for kids of workers, it's so popular there is a waiting list

Lots of educational opportunities, things like critical care courses, telemetry courses

Tuition reimbursement for LPNs going for RNs, for ADNs going for BSNs, for BSNs going for MSNs, etc. (Plus new students who want to go to nursing school can work 16 hours and get paid for 40)

A savings plan to allow you to save for children's college education

Onsite gym that's $7 every two weeks

30 days off a year to take as I please, sick or whatever (plus the option to get cash back of 100 hours of unused time, or to carry over up to 600 hours for emergencies)

I'm pretty o.k. with what they offer, except I wish they would join the current trend and offer same-sexed partners benefits.
