Hello Allnurses!

It's the summertime and as you know, pt census is usually down in hospitals. Lately, since I've not been getting a lot of my hours and haven't spent much time at work, I have subsequently been dreaming/nightmaring(is that even a word? LOL) about work! Sad, I know.

I've had several different kinds of dreams/nightmares lately... Mostly about having an absolutely IMPOSSIBLE amount of work to do and in a short period of time(think about 150 total care bed baths in 20 minutes:eek:).

Or, having bed alarms go off and literally jumping out of bed to run to the pt's room, boy did I feel foolish!

Last night, I dreamt that I was doing some sort of sterile procedure, and for some reason today all I can think about is putting on sterile gloves... Don't know why...

Share with us your freaky, weird, scary dreams about work!!!!

Before I started work as an RN, I had a dream/nightmare that I had a 4 patient assignment and completely forgot about one of them until 1pm and I had been there since 7a!! I had a hell of a time explaining to my dream patient why theyd been forgotten. :D

i had a dream the other night a patients bed/chair alarm was going off. And i KNOW that buzzing noise when it does, it is LOUD. So i'm dreaming about my patients alarm going off, next thing i know i jump out of bed like a fish out of water, and i'm standing in the middle of my bedroom. my jump woke up my fiance and he said i took off running to the next room. freaked him out because he thought something was wrong so he goes off chasing after me.

I vaguely remember anything about it, bits and pieces :yeah:

This seems pretty typical especially when you experience a change in schedule such as lessened hours. It happens to me sometimes when I take time off of work, I dream about my clients.. it's not welcome but I do. You'll get through it!

After a long busy shift I usually go home and hear call bells all night.I also frequently have the one you described, an impossible amount of work to do and I am WAY behind.I work with a lot of rehab pts( a lot of post op hips) and we expect them to bring in clothes and get dressed when ever possible. I usually have dreams of frantically rummaging through drawers trying to find clothes that fit my patient.I had one last night about removing a blood covered apparatus from an incision, cleaning it off then then trying to reinsert it.

Apparently its more common than we think. I've done it too. I'm always dreaming about bed alarms going off, only once have i ever gone after the alarm though :lol2:

I had a very strange one. In my dream one of my patients had cancer and my administrator and DON came up to me and told me that its my responisibility to find the cure for cancer or the world will end.

I dream about call lights going on and have jumped out of bed several times to go and answer them.

Not a good way to wake up at all!

You've got to be kidding. I don't think I have ever dreamed about work. The closest I have come to dreaming about hospital stuff was one I had where an airplane crashed in my front yard. I remember counting the bodies that were still alive and calling for 10 stretchers. Then trying to get everybody safely away before it burst into flames. Maybe this means I should have been a paramedic instead of a nurse.....

I'm always dreaming about work and sometimes AN. Its sad. My most recent nightmare was when a pt. was being carried out by the undertaker but then opened his eyes and starting talking.:eek::eek:

I had a dream once where I opened my med cart and instead of meds there were rows of pop. The diabetics got diet Pepsi, cardiac residents got Dr. Pepper, the dementia residents got Sunkist, etc. Best med pass ever.:yeah::yeah:

I have had the never ending med pass dream; when I was a CNA I had never ending rounds dreams. Never jumped out of bed to answer a call light though! (Yet) ;)

a dream I recall is a little more pleasant than some of yours... All I'll say is - it involved one of the docs I work with (yes, only a dream) :)
