Yes. Others share opinions, medical information, hospital information and schools to continue our education. I visit this site often and enjoy being a participant. Thanks allnurse!!!

Wow, to have this many nurses at your fingertips as a resource, definitely yes! The years of experience, the sources, the tips. I feel empowered and blessed to have this. Nursing can be a stressful, lonely place. Especially in fields that I now work in such as school health and home health. To know that I can get on here and ask a question from a collective knowledge base like this is a true gift. Even if we don't all agree I love knowing you are all out there taking care of business just like me.

This forum offers a vast wealth of knowledge. I have learned to look at things through many different eyes. This allows me to keep the big picture and not develop tunnel vision. I appreciate this forum and all those who post here....

If this was the only place where I came to learn new clinical skills, then I would have to say "No" AN has not made me a better nurse.

But being a nurse is more then just clinical skills - and it is the rest of the collective knowledge and support that I have garnered here that makes me say "Yes!" AN has made me a better nurse.

But I'm curious to know, Does allnurses.com make you a better nurse?

After answering the poll question, please share your story and feedback. Please be honest, if it has not helped, tell us, you won't hurt our feelings Thanks
No. This site doesn't make me a better nurse. It discourages me from praising my profession as freely as I have in the past. That's how I feel after reading posts here for over a year. I can definitely praise some of the respondents who have replied to threads here and others make me wonder what got them a degree in the first place. Any site that depresses me as much as this site does, well, I don't believe it makes me a better nurse. I keep coming back hoping to leave it with a new outlook. It hasn't happened yet. But cheers! Here's to 2010!

I voted yes, because somebody yelled at me when I said, "The Emperor Has No Clothes." Now I just keep my mouth shut, and apparently that makes me a better nurse.

I've gotten some insight into nursing school before starting and I believe that it helped prepared me for what was to come. Now I can look back and say "Oh, so that's what they meant by that!" It makes sense now.

I hope that your ears are wide open, and that you will ask judicious questions at work, as well as here. You sound as if the advice you received was hurtful, possibly not deserved. Please continue to monitor what you might say, if your mouth hadn't been nailed shut. Value is in the mind of the speaker, and the cognizance of the one who really hears what is said. :imbar
