Do we need to get naked on classroom?

I am not too sure about our universities but even way back when I was teaching pre-enrollment and pre-reg students we did not pu much emphasis on sponging the patient concentrating instead on how to manage to shower a 280 kg stroke patient who likes to take control of the shower hose and make sure EVERYTHING is completely soaked. Had on of those pts the other day - pt managed to shower the walls the ceiling, passing motorists outside, me and yet missed all his vital areas :chuckle

We were not required to do this in class, but since most of us were also working after classes as techs (I trained at a hospital school and lived in atached dorms ) we were encouraged and able to practice lung and heart sounds on patients frequently. We practiced breast exams on a fake boob. Now...we DID start IV's on each other and simulated bedbaths (in swimwear)...but no naked torsos for lung sounds in class (thank goodness).

That would be TOO much information about my classmates...:chuckle

Again we hear about nurses that expect patients to get naked for them but refuse to do it themselves. You can't pretend to be shocked when patients are concerned about their modesty when you yourself feel the same way.

Neither in LPN school or RN school did we need to get naked. The most we had to do was take of our sweater or roll up our sleeves for BPs.

I had a supervisor who said they were required to do COMPLETE bedbaths including pericare on each other in Fundamentals. I was kind of doubtful, but she was in all areas very truthful and trustworthy, so I am not sure if she was joking or if this actually happened. If so- that was NOT a program I would have stayed in for long!

Hi everyeone...
I would like to be a nurse but i'm a very shy person, i heard that we have to get naked on the classroom? why is that? what do they make us do? Do they make us get naked with girls and guys together?

I apparently chose to attend the wrong nursing school.

Lordy, no. We practiced any and all skills that did NOT require disrobing. For the rest, we had dummies.

Mind you, "any and all" included all forms of injection, IV starts / venipuncture, and NG tubes (the last voluntary for extra credit).
