Difficult time finding a job

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I graduated with my BSN in December of 2016 with a higher end GPA (not the highest but I considered it higher end and ok) and passed NCLEX February 2017. I began applying for Graduate Nurse Residency positions back in October of 2016. I received a few interviews but no offers. I continued my search even after graduation and now I am 3 months post-graduation and still no offers. Should I keep applying to nurse residency programs or should I apply to other positions now? Do facilities even hire new grads....all the applications I have found want someone with at least 1-2 years of experience or Clinican II and up...

HELP!

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

Keep applying to nurse residency programs...

However, at this point, you need to start considering employment options outside the shiny exalted acute care hospital setting. Look into long term acute care hospitals (LTACHs) such as Kindred Hospital, Lifecare Hospital, Vibra Specialty Hospital, and Select.

Also look into rehabilitation hospitals such as HealthSouth and Triumph.

As always, there are nursing homes, psychiatric facilities, hospices, private duty cases, home health, clinics, jail intake centers, prison infirmaries, group homes, assisted living, adult daycare, and other settings that are welcoming to new grads.

Per usual, the commuter is on point with advice :) woot woot!

Thank you, I've applied to HealthSouth also and am waiting for the second interview. I'll be sure to apply to a few of the others you have listed as well. Any opportunity and experience in healthcare would be great. Thanks again for the great advice!
