Didnt make it into Baptist RN program so trying for LVN

Didnt make it into Baptist RN program so trying for LVN


I was just wondering if anyone had any advise on what I should do now? I didnt get into the RN program at Baptist ... so I told them to go ahead and put me down for the LVN waiting list...
I was wondering would anyone mind sharing what there GPA was to get into the LVN program! ( I have a 3.3 right now, but not good enought for the RN program)
I also applied for SAC but dont find out if I made it into the RN program there for another month!?
HELP!

My tech-college didn't require a grade point average to be accepted into the program but we had to make and maintain an 80 or above on EACH test in EACH subject or fail and have to start all over again, from the beginning- which was more difficult and more stressful. Our school was known for being tough!!
That said, LVN shouldn't be looked upon as a "lesser" option-I'm going for my ADN and I'm so confident and knowledgable about so much-I was able to take a refresher course for some skills instead of wasting a whole semester redoing what I've already done.I can also work and make a decent salary while in school!! Remember, there's still the decision from SAC!!

I agree with you! Some students feel that when they flunk out or don't make it into the RN program, they are forced to swallow their pride and go into the LPN/LVN program.

If RN is your goal, then you should really ditch the LVN thing. It will be a waste of your time, your money, and your effort. Just stick to the RN. If you start working as an LVN you'll probably find it even harder to to stop everything and go back to school AGAIN for your RN. No bueno!!!

Don't give up! I know how you feel, because I too did not get accepted into Baptist (for the evening program) for the Fall 2009. I was also offered the LVN option, but can't do that, since I have to work full-time during the day. And then I get an email from them saying I've been accepted into their day RN program! BTW, my GPA is a 3.3, but I don't think I did too well on the NET.

I have also applied at SAC, and like you, waiting until next month to hear from them. Did you get the email? They said it should be around Nov. 16th.

Good luck to you. I'm sure you'll be hearing something good soon!

Thank you all so much for all your help...
The lady from Baptist e mailed me back answering me to why I didnt make it in...she said.. that it was my NET reading portion that did me in!! I ran out of time on that damn test... It was my first time taking it and didnt know what to expect! SO that is a huge bummer!!
But I will hopefully get into the SAC program... today at SAC there was a guy from UIW who told me alot about there BSN program! So I am looking into that as well! Where there is a will there is a way!
I dont think that if I didnt choose (if I am accepted ) onto the LVN program I would stop there...they have a bridge program.. as well as if you have your LVN it is much more easy to get into a RN or even BSN program!
I wont give up!!
Also... I will let ya know when I hear about sac.. ill cross my fingers for everyone!! Thanks

Good luck to you! And getting into the LVN program is not the end of the world, it's just a different path you took to get to your destination!

I'm SO glad that I didn't listen to advice like this when I chose the LVN route at the time when I needed encouragement. So pursuing your LVN-when not being accepted into an RN program is a waste? So, I guess working retail or flipping burgers would be more beneficial!! No offense b/c you do what you have to do, but there is NOTHING wrong with going the LVN route-as she mentioned it will be a stepping stone to the RN route.

I'm actually being accepted for my ADN and I'm fully prepared for all that's coming my way. No unnecessary prereq's, I've got tons of work experience that will look great on a resume-look at all the "new" RN"S who can't get jobs b/c of no experience, not to mention I work for a company that provides tuition reimbursement and a position when I'm done.

Not bad for someone who didn't "ditch" the LVN thing!!!!!

There will always be ignorant comments about LVNs. When people ask why would I chose to be a LPN/LVN, I ask them, "Will it be better if I was on welfare? I went to school, I'm working, I'm paying taxes, period."

An LVN/LPN is a very valuable, often unappreciated part of the healthcare team. Never let yourself be valued as any less!
