Did anyone have a CI who stole from the clinical site?

I was reading a post by a NS about her instructor making stuff up while teaching and it reminded me of my first CI. She used to just take things from the site and do it right in front of me. We would be in the storage room and pick up everything from personal care items to sets of hemostats, bandage scissors etc etc. She simply said "Oh, I need a new set of these" And no she was NOT using it for patient care at that facility.

I never reported her because...doh...I couldn't do so anonymously.

Cast your minds back...did anyone else have an experience like this?

and what could they do with it? I guess if they had a clogged drain or something?

Open their own practice on the cheap with expensive, expensive stolen equipment. Sell it to a physician colleague, etc.

Many of them seem to have positions lined up with family, friends, etc...and try to obtain whatever they can for free or low cost before they walk out of the door. We had a podiatrist who used to always claim that instruments were missing, but he used to steal them for his private practice. Was doing it for years and then, not using sterile instruments on the patients. I was a CNA at the time and did not know which instruments were supposed to be sterile versus what was not until the infection control nurse came in and started questioning him and corrected me. What a mess! They ended up firing him...

Stealing equipment...now that's just criminal...literally!

Of course! And using unsterile instruments on the feet of poor, unsuspecting diabetics is downright insane! But, he would rather do that and steal the instruments for his paying patients in the highly affluent neighborhood his private practice is located. The bum...they should have put him UNDER the jail.
