hi there. I am new to the board and currently in school. I actually am on the waiting list for my clinical portion of the program. I will be doing the nights and weekend program. I read another post similar to mine and i have a question also pertaining to criminal history. I have record also for a conspiracy charge. I was also in an abusive situation and got in trouble due the relationship. In my state I am not a convicted felon beacuse I pled nolo. The good part of this is now its 12 years and happily married with someone else, two lovely kids and looking forward to a nursing career. I know all employers do background checks but my question is will someone hire me with a record even though its not a severe crime like my lawyer worded it.I really want to work in a hospital. I feel embarssed and ashamed to explain the sitaution to a potentional employer. Does anyone know anyone that got hired with a record? Will anyone hire me? Ive come too far to quit now so Im just pray something good will come my way. God did not bring me this far just to throw me to the curb. Thank you for your help.

i understand your concern. i have had a very troublesome past and i have gotten over it to a point. i was also in an abusive relationship for 10 years and i was made to do things that got me into serious trouble. since then i have graduated college with several degrees and i am working in a major hospital in pennsylvania. now i am at the point of my life that i would like to obtain a nursing degree. i have taken all the required prerequisites necessary to get into a nursing program. my grades are excellent and my references are too. i also had spoken to an attorney at the BON and directors of schools. i also have a copy of my background check. all the responses i have received have been positive. but it has been told to me that i may run into some stumbling blocks. i have hired attorney to try to get help to chance my current background check. my road is not going to be easy, because i have to first try the courts and it that does not work then the governor. i have been through extensive couseling and training to get me to this point in my life. don't give up and keep on trying. i think everyone can change and things sometimes happen that we as humans do not have control of. it saddens me to think that i may not get the opportunity to become a nurse and teacher. i pray each night for a chance to continue my education and that GOD will answer my prays. so far he has been good and i am just loving life. please do not give up on your dreams, because i believe that anything you work hard at will come true.

After 10 years you can petition the Court you were charged in for an expungment of your record, then you will no longer have to tell anyone and the offense will no longer be on your record, read my story entitled " Down and Dirty in the Oklahoma state board of nursing " on this site, it will be helpfull.
