I am a 35 yo male who made a mistake 16 years ago and now I would like to go to school for my R.N.I have also been a E.M.T fo 12 years without any problems.I spoke to the state board of nursing and they say I can go to school but they are not sure if I would be able to get my license.I also live in New Jersey where a R.N just confessed to killing 40+ patients. Now the state is looking at more strict guidelines for getting your nursing license. What do you think? I need advice.

I to had a felony about 16 years before I went to school. The catch is that after I did everything i was supposed to I ask the DA to have it expunged. 55 dollars and a year later it was. Talk to a lawyer about the process for expungement. I did tell the BON everything and had to prove that it was expunged. I have 8 state lic now and still have to jump through hoops when i work in different states. It can be done.

Lots of good advise here.. the best I agree with, Get a lawyer and have the record sealed... then you will not have to worry about it any more.. even if you get to sit for bopards, it will constantly come up time and time again whenyou apply for jobs, as most employers do background checks, making it difficult to get a goos job. If you get it sealed, then it will allow you to take boards, and will help you to get job(s).

Best of luck to you.
