Connections to a NONTRADITIONAL nursing job?

most of those or things like working at club med in thailand or other fun places require experience, usually at least a year, more often 3 years in the ER... :/

That's what I've been gathering from looking around too! I don't mind the hospital - I'm just more adventurous and thought I should do it while I'm young!! :)

When I first graduated from nursing school my 5 year plan was to get some nursing experience under my belt and go down to Australia to work. Met my ex-husband and that all changed (really bad trade off). Also thought about Saudi Arabia because there were lots of ads in the nursing magazines back then - not sure if they do it still. Then I heard about the conditions over there and realized why they paid 100K per year.

Once you have your license there are companies who pay you well to write care plans for patients but no direct patient care :)

Uncle Sam wants you!

You just might have to wait a long time. That'd be a bit adventurous. I'd go with ER to start out. It's probably the best for a newb that wants to do something interesting. So many ER jobs are 3, 12 hour shifts around here. I love that. I love working 12's from previous work. Three days per week instead of a 2/5 split is better. I'm open for that. The, "get your year of med-surg experience" crap is no where in my scope, lol.

A way to break in to this would be to get some solid Med-Surg experience under your belt and then start working for a Travelers outfit. You could then literally go anywhere in the US and enjoy the area. We had travelers who decided to come to the Lake Tahoe area and they worked with us, did skiing and sailing, moutain-biking and hiking when they weren't working. I never spoke to any who weren't having a good time.
