Coffee marketed to nurses. Would you buy it?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi fellow nurses and those aspiring to be,

I have noted through the years, that most nurses are none too pleased with the hospital coffee we are privy to drinking while on shift.

Many times, when a fellow co-worker, or even a patient's family member, brings in a bag of specialty coffee for those on shift, I've seen staff get pretty jazzed. Even for just five minutes of time drinking some yummy brew, staff gets excited and there's potentially a mild increase in morale for a short time.

Anyone else feel this way?

My question to all of you: If there was a coffee brand marketed specifically to nurses in some way, and the flavors and beans were high quality, etc., would any of you be willing to purchase it (or put money in for it as a group) for use during shifts? Or try and get the hospital or your facility to purchase it once a month?

Thoughts? Concerns? Desires? Waste of money?

Thanks!

Waste of money. There are plenty of good coffees "out there," without slapping something about nurses on the label for marketing purposes.

Would I buy it because it is marketed specifically to nurses? No. Would I buy it if it were yummy and priced slightly better than other similar quality coffees that meet my personal taste? Sure, if it were easy to get.

Hospitals do not have good coffee because there is a lack of quality coffee or there is a missed marketing opportunity, they do not have good quality coffee due to budgeting and prioritization.

A coffee marketed to nurses would have to overcome the same issues in the marketplace.

Now I have worked at places where they made available good, fresh, quality coffee (usually Starbucks) as a customer service measure and employee fringe benefit.

If you want to make real money figure out a way to suck the pee non-invasively from a busy nurse while they drink quality coffee from a drink holding hat like what you see at football games.

What is your logic regarding this statement? Could you explain why you would feel gullible?

Thanks!

Have everyone pitch in a few bucks to get the unit a keurig then bring your own k-cups in (store some in your locker)- problem solved.

What if the coffee brand was very good coffee and for a competitive price? Would you then lean towards purchasing it, because it expressed recognition for the nursing field? Or would you not consider purchasing outside coffee in general, as it is not important to you? Or for other reasons?

Thanks!

Sorry aceofhearts, I meant to post this response to elkpark, up top!

I do not drink coffee for the taste or the quality: I drink coffee in self-defense, and as an act of self-preservation. Period.

My favorite coffee is the free stuff.

Coffee at the hospital isn't great, but it is free and drinkable. If I'm drinking coffee at the hospital, I'm generally caring more about the caffeine than the taste. I wouldn't splurge on "nurse coffee" to bring to work. If I want good coffee I'll go to my local coffee house and drink it an atmosphere where I can take my time to savor my drink and enjoy the company of good friends.

And contribute more to the environmental waste problem? No, thank you, not me.
