Hi all--have a question. Is there any problem with a CO LPN transcribing orders, verbal/telephone/written? I know some states have this restriction, but I don't think Colorado does. I have a new DON and she said she thought we couldn't (she's from another state). Help me here! And also, can you tell me where I can find this 'officially'? THANKS!

Your best bet is to pick up a phone and talk to your board of nursing. They are the ones with the difinitive answer.

I think there is a PDF file of the Colorado Nurse Practice Act on http://www.dora.state.co.us. If not, you can obtain a copy of the Nurse Practice Act by contacting the Colorado State Board of Nursing, 1560 Broadway, Suite 880, Denver, CO 80202.

OK I'm not totally stupid--I had a copy of the Nurse Practice Act in my hand when I posed the question. Have you all ever read that thing? It does not break down specific tasks into RN's do that, LPN's do this. I have been a CO LPN for 3.5 years, and I know what I have always done, I was just asking on the off-chance that my boss stumbled on a little rural hospital that has been doing things wrong! Thanks.
