An elderly neighboor of mine asked me if I knew of anything to make a bruise go away quicker. Time, ice and elevation (twisted her ankle) was all I told her. She mentioned something she used for years. I don't remember the whole name but it was called something like tincture of ar.....? She swore by this and said you used to be able to get this at the regualar drug store. Anyone know what she was talking about?? Maybe this belongs under home remidies??

By the way, it was just a lt purple bruise around her ankle and foot and she was taking an ASA a day...major production for this little old lady!:p

Arnica is very good for bruising... I use it very often - I get it in our local chemist over here...:)

Mentholatum will make bruises disappear overnight! I've used it many times. For those who are not familiar with it, it can be found at most pharmacies OTC. It has a vaseline-like consistency,a strong menthol odor, and used to be very popular to relieve cold and flu congestion by smearing it all over the chest at night. (Okay, okay, so I grew up in the dark ages!!!)

Jemb,....you were alone in those dark ages! I remember that stuff well. Used to HATE having it rubbed on my chest because your shirt would stick to it - ugh  But it sure did the trick

Ooohhh!

I just got a flashback of one of those icky childhood sensations.

I still use it. My kids hate it - I find the smell quite comforting. It's a lying in bed, I'm so sick, I need someone to fuss over me, childhood memory smell. jax
