Hi BettyBoop. I am an ICU nurse from London and am nearly through the process of going to America. I expect to have my green card within the next couple of months. If there is anything I can help you with please feel free to email me and I can talk you though the process: [email protected]

It's a very long process so be prepared. I started back in November 2001 and I am still waiting...nearly 2 years. The NCLEX is hard but not impossible but you do need to study for it. The immigration paperwork is the worst aspect though, and the waiting. If you are comitted then you can make it but you have to be into it 100%. I have gone through an agency, and I recommend that as you don't want to be going through immigration on your own if you don't know what you are doing...it's a veritable nightmare.

The standard of nursing care in the UK is excellent, but the difference between the US and the UK is that, because of the US private healthcare system, the hospitals are newer and supplies are more readily available. The physical standard of hospitals in the UK is extremely poor and that's not something I've seen in the US. Also, it's fairly easy to get to an E Grade over here, but no-one really wants to progress or are encouraged to progress further than that. I want to be a nurse anaesthetist eventually and I hope that will be a rewarding experience in the US.

Good luck and PM or email me if I can help at all.
