I hope Brian knew how much All Nurses means to so many people.

I found knowledge, advice, comfort, humor, and camaraderie here.

I feel like I know a lot of the members and am so glad I found this place.

There was an initial post under this same title. Was it posted there? We had a technical glitch and that entire thread disappeared. If it was in that post, it cannot be retrieved. Sorry.

Please everyone re-share your thoughts here if you can, horrible time for a technical glitch, but it happened. As you can imagine, this thread has a lot of views/activity.

I just cannot believe such a tragedy has happened! God bless, God speed to family and friends with finding peace and closure.

Again, my prayers go out to his family and loved ones.

He has directly and indirectly been such a huge impact on the nursing community and will be sorely missed.

The admin and the rest of the staff is working through this horrible news and attempting to keep all the posts together. There have been some technical glitches, please bear with the staff, as you can imagine, everyone is personally and professionally affected.

Yes it has been a tremendous shock to those of us who have worked alongside Brian for years and considered him a wonderful and dear friend. We are doing our best to keep things running smoothly.

An ixchel list for Brian:

Why I am thankful for AllNurses

1. Real questions with real answers.

2. I don't have nurse friends IRL. I have you guys.

3. An introduction to nurse culture before becoming a nurse.

4. The opportunity to mentor and be mentored.

5. An understanding of what all of this "nursey stuff" means overall. (A bigger picture, if you will.)

6. An opportunity to learn from starkly contrasting points of view, along with where those points of view come from.

7. Fellowship.

8. A launchpad for research.

9. The ability to gauge my own responses to a situation with responses of others. (Otherwise known as, "am I crazy for thinking this?")

And the biggest reason I am thankful for AllNurses:

10. I found this place as a prenursing student and still am here as an "experienced" nurse. I've gained personal and professional development from the wisdom and experiences of others. I've learned it's okay to cry. I've learned it's okay to be dark. I've learned so, so much and will continue to learn more in the years to come.

Brian gave me this. I'm deeply thankful for that. My condolences to those touched by this unspeakable tragedy.

I'm stunned. I love this site and it has helped me in so many ways from the beginning of my inklings of becoming a nurse. I am a nurse now and this site has been an important part of (and companion on) my journey. I have no idea what brought this tragedy to pass. But may those grieving find peace.

Deepest condolences to the Short family, friends and extended family in this most difficult and tragic time. I know Brian was aware of the impact and reach of this site, hence why he never sold despite many offers. May peace and comfort come to those left behind. It's still difficult to process.

I found Brian and allnurses way back in 2000. The comraderie, the mentoring, the sharing, the humor and compassion (and the whining) that is nursing is all here. I'm not sure what Brian thought he was starting, but I'm sure it went beyond his initial imagination.

A bright light is gone.

Brian and the community he created took me from a pre-nursing student to a career I love every day.

Truly a sad day.

Still in shock and words fail me.
