when the BP is taken two or three times, then the average pressure is recorded as the value for that visit (according to this textbook)
I have never seen this "average" reading explanation before
is this what is being done if several BP readings are taken?

Our facility requires each reading to be recorded, as well as the time and placement. Sometimes people immediately pump the cuff back up, not allowing the blood vessels to recover. Actual recordings are done then the MD can make out of it whatever he/she wishes.
