Board of Nursing Actions

Nurses General Nursing

Published

If there is anyone out there who has had to go before the Board of Nursing in their state for allegations, could you kindly e-mail me. I had to. Wanted to do some travel nursing. As it turns out, even after the Board that issues the order, which in my case was just a reprimand (take an online course). My license has not been restricted to practice (technically). if I want to secure a license in another state, even if the order is disclosed online, I still have to go through a new hearing in the state where i wish to secure a license. their rationale is that they won't just accept some other state's decision.

Unbelievable!

My career is ruined. If someone out there has gone through this, I would sure like to hear how you have handled this and how you have been able to obtain jobs.

Thanks :crying2:

sounds like you may need to consult an attorney. check out this search engine for nurse attorney's. look up the state in which you wish to be licensed. you may be able to get a free consultation.

been there experienced that 19yrs ago.

Nothing happened to my license. People make mistakes. As long as you didn't hurt anyone, no stealing drugs or impairment while on the job you will be OK . This will be a fly on a horses a_ _ in a few years. Honesty is best.

There are lots of nurses worse and get by with it. Trust me-been a nurse for 20 yrs.

What has changed alot is the Board wants Perfect people-no such thing, nurses are people just like anyone else.

Learn the lesson, your life is not ruined and don't let others scare you.

Wanted to add, Indian reservations use alot of travelers, They don't take anyone with a ding on there license which is determental to patients.

Not a good comment.

Thanks Keekeedt. I'll tell you, from day 1 I have been swimming upstream in this field i still feel blessed to be a part of. I have had to request deferrments and/or forebearances in the past. Yes, it can be done on the phone, but it costs $150.00 with Sallie Mae. Don't have the money. But you know, it's o.k.; i still believe God has a plan for me and that divine intervention has a way of turning negatives into positives.

Thanks for your input!:heartbeat

The job field is tight right now. Have you thought about LTC? I am glad you had a lawyer and insurance :). I am sending positive thoughts your way........:heartbeat

Yes i have malpractice insurance and yes I had an attorney represent me. couldn't have done it without her. No..it looks like I won't be trraveling for a long time. It is difficult enough trying to obtain a job when you answer yes on the employment application regarding disciplinary action.

I am so sorry that this has happened to you. It could happen to any of us...even when the best intentions are put forward, especially with the way hospitals staff these days.

Wacondo, thank you, thank you, thank you for all of your very true and actually quite profound. I wrote this yesterday after some additional rude awakenings. I'll tell you the truth, I've been quite delusional about myself and life for a long time. I thank God that Ii have experienced everything I have for these past 2.5 years as a nurse because....they have made me a much more informed, strong person and nurse and ......life has taken an entirely new meaning for me.

Thanks to you and everyone who has so generously come out to say a few kind words.

Question, when I apply in an institution with the truth, do you know if HR reports this to my resident state board (which is not the state where this whole "thing" happened. Don't know if you know, but if anyone else knows, it would be helpful.:redpinkhe

It is really not clear exactly what you did wrong. It is unfortunate you have such a large student loan debt. I assume that was for more than your nursing education. This is a tight job market but there is always a job for you. Start applying to everybody and eventually you and your job will meet up.

"Compact states" report to each other

https://www.ncsbn.org/nlc.htm

a list of compact states

http://www.nursetogether.com/tabid/118/itemid/189/US-States-Participating-in-the-Nurse-Licensure-C.aspx

good luck.....

Do compact states report to noncompact states? I hear about nurses not disclosing their displinary actions on their applications.

You have to get local allies where you live. You only have 2 and a half years as a nurse and I think that may be the biggest thing hurting you. When I was disciplined I had much more experience and I knew nurses all over the state including the director of the RNP. You are a true unknown. Go out and make connections. Join the state nursing association.

That is the whole point of the compact vs non-compact states....... but if you list the compact state on your application as state you have a license in they will report the discipline. Be careful........computers and serches are much improved and businesses are using them more........they fidyou not being truthful you will not work.

Just wondering what's happening. I'm going through the process with the board. I'm feeling horrified, embarrassed, and a little hopeless. :( I'm trying to not build this up in my head to be too big. I have a lawyer. I have disclosed to my new employer. I may only be allowed to work under an R.N. who is present on the premises when I'm working. This would essentially mean I would lose my job. Ugh! I'm just at this crux.....do I pursue a new career? I don't know.
