Being denied employment because of a credit check :(

Hi, I graduated last year..In order to get the job, they told me that they have to run a credit check on me..I know that I owe a lot of money to creditors but what my potential employer does not know is that I have a bank account with a lot of savings..The way I manage money is that I dont pay off my creditors all at once..I just pay off the minimum amount every month and save money..It is like paying off a home where people have savings but they just dont pay off the home all at once..My credit rating is excellent..I am at 780..I pay 6% interest on my credit cards..

My potential employer thinks I making too little to support myself so I got denied the job....And also my potential employer does not know that I am living with my mom now and she lets me live there for free..

Now, this credit checking thing to get hired,is kind of bad, if they dont have the whole picture! :(

My credit sux and I will admit that, but it is from when I was younger and immature. I have grown up a lot and have to live with the past, but that doesnt make me a bad nurse.

i have had fingerprint and background check which i agree with, i would not want to have loved one cared for by someone who had a record of abuse, actually i would not want to work with someone like this...i know that it is a loss of privacy but how else do you protect the vulnerable. how is this handled in the other countries who don't check

i have never had a credit check which is ok now but after my divorce it was the pits

You are NOT saving money by paying the minimum each month and putting the rest into savings. The longer you go not paying off these debts the more you will be eaten alive with interest fees. Do the math and figure it out.

You need SERIOUS financial counseling.

YOU hit the nail on the head, motorcycle mama!!!!!

The following link calculates how much you pay in interest - and how long it will take you to pay off your credit card - if you make minimum payments only. SCARY!!!!!

TO HOPEFUL: where do you get your statistics from??? {Statistically, people with extremely poor credit (below 580 credit scores), are more likely to call in, are more likely to be dishonest, and are more likely to steal.}

I just applied with what is supposed to be one of the top travel nurse companies in the nation......they ask for a pre-employment disclosure/release form to be signed.....

it asks for a credit report, consumer report, and investigative report to be done in connection with my application for employment with prospective employers.....

This is done through a company called "PRECHECK", Inc....

I am wondering how, when I don't handle any monetary exchanges, I have no access to a person's money, or the hospitals'....how this kind of "background check" has any bearing on my abilities as a nurse to care for someone....

In my case, my credit is completely bashed from a bad divorce....where does THAT figure in to the EQUATION???

Am I denied employment because STATISTICALLY I am less likely to show up for work??? I haven't missed a day in two years with my part time employer, and I haven't missed but ONE day in five years with my other employer....I guess I don't fit the so called statistics...yet I will look like a risk???

This is WRONG!! on so many levels....crni

This is the company's website....it's pretty smarmy and vague, on purpose, I suppose.....and sounds innocuous....but truly could potentially black ball a person, unless a person has a means with which to counter the CLAIMS made by statistics, or numbers, or some other information being stated....seems to me that this is really weighted unfairly AGAINST the employee....I wonder if the California Nurse's Association and other nurse's associations have looked into how this has the potential to blackball a perfectly good nurse????

I am all for full disclosure...BUT ONLY if I have opportunity to re-but incorrect, false, or slanted statistics or information....ie,

what if the debt that is showing as foreclosure has my name on it....but WAS NOT MINE?? how do I have a chance to re-but this through a company that deals with only numbers, only statistics, only interviews with "personal acquaintances"......this looks very KGB to me....

Has anyone considered that is another form of "profiling"?

being denied employment based on a poor credit score is no different than being denied employment based on skin color, ethnic origin, religion, sexual preference, or age....

the aforementioned is protected under the fair employment act....a credit rating is not....

I see this as a very poor way to determine a person's eligibility for employment....

I can understand criminal background checks, or drug testing, or personal references.....I cannot understand the snooping that is then used against you in credit checking.....

this is wrong!!

A foreclosure can only be connected to the owner(s) of the property / holders and co-signers of a loan.

As for truly incorrect info: this is why it is recommended for everyone to check their credit bureau histories annually to make sure information is accurate. And that has nothing to do with job-hunting.
