Background check taking long time...

Hi all-

I have been offered a job and completed my physical + paperwork. I am wondering though about the background check as that is the only thing not finished. Before becoming a nurse I had a license in a health-related field and did not complete all my CEU's one year, and it is on my record. That state board has not replied to the background check for nearly a month.

Is there anything I can do to expedite the process? Is there a particular time frame in which they have to reply?

A background check is usually a criminal history and your CEU's or lack of them would not be something attached to this.

If you are referencing your nursing license, most states are able to verify your information online immediately.

If the CEU's are not required for your nursing license then I don't see why/how your other license would effect anything. Lots of people have licensed in different careers, some keep them active, some don't..

Maybe I'm not understanding what you are asking here...employers, as far as I know, don't contact the BON other than license verification and that shouldn't take any time at all.

My advice is to contact the employer and ask what the status is on whatever this is you are talking about then contact whomever it is that isn't responding to your new employers and ask them what is going on.

When my current employer ran my criminal background check it took 1 month .... No one knows why. They really needed me to start and contacted the agency running the checks, ect.

I have contacted my recruiter and was told it is this particular health board who is not responding...apparently whoever conducts the background checks wants verifications that this red flag on my former health license is nothing serious. I am considering calling them myself to ask them why they aren't replying, but am concerned that might make them drag their feet even more.
