how about if we let you keep your official male-type jockey shorts and t-shirt, instead of a corset my great grandma would have worn? no what she called a bust confiner either...:rolleyes:

no sensible grandma-type old-fashioned nursing shoes with the cuban heel either. just athletic shoes.

Now that I think about it, I'd like to wear that white dress and cap once(on my own time, mind you!) just to see what I'd look like. I think I'll do that this Halloween or maybe for nurses' day next year...

My current hospital is navy or navy white combo for RN's. 5 years ago at a different place it was navy or white pant with whatever top (no cartoons, except in peds) the guys usually wore white trousers and a dark scrub top.

My personal preference is white pants/navy top but work in the OR so have to do all navy....

That picture that people have of the traditional nursed is objectifying. If Administrations want traditional looking nurses I guess they better get rid of us dudes. I'd like to see what their patient satisfaction survey looks like when all the nurses have quit due to ridiculous uniform requirements. Obviously they didn't survey my old man because he would have picked the naughty nurse outfit.

Next thing is they'll have nurses working in three piece suits for the sake of "professionalism". Can you imagine the dry cleaning bills?

I'd prefer the color coded scrubs. Like nurses wear one color, doctors, therapists and pharmacists have their own too. But if there's no such thing, if nurses wanted to wear the all-white again, I can't argue if it's their choice and not imposed by the admin.

Used them in nursing school. And where I'm at, most hospitals still use them. What? you have to wear a white dress all day while you have to bend and move around too? How can you not get dirty while you empty a catheter bag or a lady with bowel obstruction vomits bile? Made sure I wouldn't work in place that uses them. What's with the cap? Makes everyone know we're the person to boss around. NOOO way will I ever wear them again:down:

realistically the same sort of system the navy uses on aircraft carriers would work in hospitals. you have x job you wear x colored uniform.

that's exactly how my hospital handled it. rns and lpns wear either all white or white tops with maroon scrub pants, cnas wear all maroon, radiology wears dark blue, respiratory wears black (hey, they picked their own color), medical records wears pink, housekeeping purple, student interns bright blue, dietary black with black visors and aprons, physicians in street clothes or green/blue or scrubs, therapy white tops with blue pants.......and i'm sure i've missed a few. patients would never remember them all, but they do remember that their nurse wore white!

Symbolic of what a nurse is? ... Feminine? And therefore, required to wear ridiculous clothing based on cultural norms and expectations? :eek:

I think she was trying to say that the idea of including male nurses in the edict to go back to the traditional whites and cap would be ludacris. As it would be if men would be required to wear white scrubs--- shudder---

I just can't get over how sweet it is that Not a Hat Person is willing to wear a hat! I will work with you anytime!!;)
