Ask an RN - technology in healthcare

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hey guys! I'm currently taking a nursing informatics course and was hoping to get some feedback from some of you for one of my assignments. Part of the assignment is to interview an RN and gather information on the following topics...

1) What technologies (such as electronic health records, bar coding, and smart pumps) are you using in your practice?

2) What are the weaknesses or challenges in providing quality healthcare using this technology?

3) What are the strengths in providing quality healthcare using this technology?

4) What confidentiality and security issues have you encountered in using technology in patient care?

If anyone would like to answer these questions, the help would be greatly appreciated!

A big part of your assignment is to have actual face-to-face interaction with a nurse. Answers on an online forum may be honest and factual - or NOT. Call your local hospital and ask to speak to a nurse. Arrange an interview. Most of us are very receptive to students who are working hard to fulfill their assignments.

Asking "nurses" in an online forum just doesn't work. First of all, we don't want to interfere in anyone's learning process by letting them take the easy way out, and secondly, how do you know that a responder really is a nurse?

Well it is actually an online course, and a big part of the course has been learning to utilize all types of technology, including online resources (including websites and forums). It was never specified to have a face-to-face interview. It is only a small part of the assignment, the rest is a research portion, and I was seeking opinions/experiences, not necessarily facts. I actually work very hard on my assignments, and assumed the answers I could get here would be just as good (or honest) as any, but thanks anyway.
