Well, thought I'd write since I will be moving to Nashville next Friday...

First I have to get through 3 finals, then I pack and drive down the following day (from New York)...

Got into nursing school for this January and am so overwhelmed already! In addition to moving there, I have to buy all the books ahead of time and begin reading. I've also been advised to purchase shoes, uniform, and stethescope... no idea where or which to buy though.

I guess it'll all come together when school starts but I'm so anxious/excited/nervous.

    Happy Holidays,
    Spec

I also live in Tn. I did the LPN thing first because of children and finances and then after a year I took the challenge test and it tested me out of 15 hours and it only left me with 11 hours to finish my RN.

Actually i will be moving to nashville early next year, would like to sooner but $$$ is a needed thing first. Looking at murfreesboro and other areas. I am from a union hosp. and am kind of nervous about the hospitals, i would normally look for a magnet or a union but i dont think there are any, SO anyone know of a nurse freindly facility i should look at, i need 12's . . . hard to come by where i am now, but especially so far from my family with my kids they are a must when i move. I cant wait to come down ! !

MTSU is Middle Tennessee State University. They do have a BSN program. So does TSU (Tennessee State University). Both are reasonably priced. It just depends on which one will mesh better with your prereqs & which one you can get into sooner.

Good luck in your decision-making process!

Wendy, sorry to hear that your are unhappy in Memphis. I was born and raised in Memphis and am happy here. I must admit that a great deal of my satisfication with Memphis is related to my family being here. I now live in the "memphis area" which means that I don't actually live in Memphis anymore, but am close enough to work in Memphis.

Which means you live in one of the burbs or in Mississippi, but this is not the same as living within the limits of this <gag> good city. So, again I say there is not ONE good thing I can say about Memphis and from your post neither can you. This is just my opinion and we all know what opinions are like <EG>

I understand why you would not like living in Memphis. Memphis is not the same city that I grew up in. Many things are wrong and we left the city for the burbs several years ago because of those problems. But I also feel some how disloyal being critical of my home town. Are you planning on staying in Memphis?

Whoa pony....what an attitude! I am usually really nice, but I can't help this one....last I remember there were roads leading OUT of Memphis...so what's keeping you there? If you're so miserable then leave.

Hey all, I too grew up not too far from Memphis and am thinking about relocating back to the outskirts of that area. I am here in the panhandle of Florida and the work and pay here is a little behind in the times of other areas. Sort of economically depressed in other words. I have been a nurse for 12+ years and worked in south, central and now in panhandle of Florida. So, i guess i can say been there, done that. I think the quality of life would be better for me and my family there, it is very beautiful in the rural parts of the state. Also you are not required to keep up with all the new changing requirements for keeping your nursing license there as here in Florida, what a nightmare! Hope to be up there real soon, already have my application for endorsement and very excited to make a change. P.S. The cost of housing in Tenn. is a lot cheaper than here.
