I know I'm probably a masochist but I have been wondering for a while if I could still pass NCLEX after 25+ years out of school. There are so many threads about how hard it is to pass- I didn't think it was that tough when I took it 25 years ago. (I was a lousy student and I'm no brighter than average). Does anyone know if you can "audit" NCLEX? God!- what if I took it again and failed- wouldn't they have to take my licence?! Great, now that I've posted this, I'm going to have nightmares about NCLEX for the next week!

I took it so long ago that it was 5 (or maybe 6) paper-and-pencil tests over 2 days. I strongly suspect I couldn't pass, not without a lot of review. Medical knowledge advances so much over just a short time. We keep up with our own specialties, but not necessarily with other areas.

You must have had too many beers with it being Friday night and all!!!!
I would never take it again, even out of curiosity. Don't even want to go there...
I think most of us would pass though, at least those of us that have kept up and are working in hospitals would pass. Well, maybe. Or, maybe not. I forgot about all the OB/peds/psych stuff. I haven't reviewed that stuff in years. I would pass the med/surg portion no doubt, but the rest I'm not so sure about.

I just took it, and never want to have to take it again, but something my instructor always said to me, was if she had to take it over again she would fail, because the NCLEX is a perfect nursing utopia where there is as much staff, supplies and you need and all the equipment works all the time.
And then there is the real life nursing world

I have actually thought about this too! I thought it was easy when I took it many, many years ago (I'm 52). I was the first person done out of over several hundred nurses that took it. I'm game to try it again! Or maybe I''m stupid! :smackingf Ya got me curious--maybe I'll order a practice test guide and see how good--I mean poorly I do! Any suggestions on which one to order?

It's not tough now either.

Bring it on and then some. I have thought about this and wouldn't have any concern to pass as I keep up with all the new stuff coming out. For instance I will find practice test for the NCLEX on the internet and take em. Many times it makes me go into research mode but I keep up.
I know too many RN's that I don't even know how they got their licenses and wish they would re-take it.
Keeping up and continuous education is key in nursing today. BTW; it's all computerized since the later 1990's.

one time after about 15 years of working as a Nurse, I borrowed one of my co-workers Saunders review books that had a sample test- I did take it- just to see how I did, ...........interesting!! ;-)

I think that today's test is just plain silly. You don't need to have any real knowledge to pass it. It's turned in to a game of how well you can take a test. This is why you see those nurses...

I have to disagree with this. I do not see how anyone could pass the CAT Nclex and not have any real knowledge. Game, I don't think so. The nursing review industry would not be in business if this was not such a serious matter. Compiled with the course taking and nursing program that you must first get through. Speaking for myself I studied my butt off. My life consisted of nothing but nursing for a period of time. As for "those nurses "there is always a small percentage that just don't care. I can not speak for back then when the test was pencil and paper, but now you have no idea what you may receive on your test. I have to respect the fact that anyone who has passed the Nclex is well deserving of their success. Those of you who are still in the process of testing continue to study and apply yourself 100 percent. Trust me it is not a game !:twocents:
