  1. Do you think this ad/photo negatively portrays nurses?

I saw this picture along with the ad on Facebook. It is an ad for The College Network's RN to MSN program. "Go from an RN to MSN without sitting in a classroom! 100% online program". Really is that suppose to be a serious picture of a nurse because it looks to me like a "slutty nurse" Halloween costume, not an actual nurse.

I emailed the Webmaster for The College Network and stated that we as nurses have enough negative stereotypes to battle and this type of advertising doesn't help. I mean I know I go to work everyday in a cheesy nursing "cap" and satin uniform...yep everyday. Geez! So I guess the question is does anyone else have a problem with this ad.

u know upon second look at that photo, is her hand like caressing the back of a patient?:woot:

I don't know of any US Hospital that requires nurses where their "whites" which would include a cap. I think they were phased out by the mid 1980s.

I left the hospital setting about a year ago, but at that time there were still a couple of hold-outs who wore their caps. The facility didn't require them, of course, but those who wanted to could wear them, and they did.

Me, I ONLY wear mine on Halloween! Patients get a kick out of it :)

Uhm.... Have you guys EVER seen facebook ads that make any dang sense? There was one on mine with a woman smearing what appeared to be fake blood all over her face, with the ad reading, "Woman finds MIRACLE cure for wrinkles!!! Doctors HATE her!!"Seriously guys. It's the internet. You're going to have to be more discerning about what gets your feathers ruffled.
Yeah, those ads are all randomly generated. Why borrow trouble? You can flag it as inappropriate and go on with your life.

I agree the picture is ridiculous and in poor taste for nursing-related ad. But I wouldn't go so far as to say it portrays anything about nursing. Aren't we a bit too concerned about our image? We just do our job right and be proud, period.

Besides, there are already so many nurse hopefuls, and not finding jobs. Do we want our job look so cool that everyone wants to go to nursing school?
