Any hosp's/organizations repay nsg loans? Need help please...

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hello, this is my first post & I'm delighted to be here.

Maybe some of you can help with my question.

I was an LPN for 13 yrs, went back to a private college for my BSN. I have been a registered nurse for 7 yrs now.

I left college w/ $27,500 in student loan fees.

I have worked only part time, had two children both through IVF (more loans) however, one passed away as a preemie, the other born at 28 weeks gest. I was not working for most of my 7 yrs.

I have either used deferrment or forbearance.

UP to date now...

I work part time night shift, my husband works in the Army.

I now have $37,500 in student loans.

My interest rate is at 6.8% & all are w/ Sallie Mae.

they will not lower my fixed interest rate, I also asked them to release them to another funding company who will lower it, they will not, & do not have to apparently.

Just today I called the Nat. Education Dept for help. They said

I can switch my loans to them, but my interest will stay the same.

What can I do??? Any suggestions? Any place, organization, etc. that repays part or all of nursing student loans?

I am a bit desparate here because my monthly amt. is $380 for what feels like a million yrs. My son will be in college soon & I'll still be paying mine until I am a grandmother. I am 41 yrs old.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I live in WA state. Thank you, Lisa

I should add to clarify, our oldest child is 13yrs, our preemie boy is 2 yrs.

I would love to stay home w/ them more since my youngest is needing lots of medical appts at this time.

I will cont. to work part time nights, but was hoping to make a dent in my loans a different way.

Thanks again, Lisa

you might want to call and see if any organizations will hire you and pay that off in installments. There are several facilities here that will do that with a signed committment. I think it is usally for full time though.

What area of Washington state are you in??? I do know of a hospital that pays student loan, and there are many Indian and Native Alaska organizations that pay also, but I don't think you're in a position to take advantage of those. But I had a friend recently go to Alaska for a two year commitment for pay off school loans. But I realize this isn't an option for you. But I would be happy to ask around for you, or hopefully steer you to someone who can help. Only problem is, you might have to work more hours. You can PM if you wish, and you can just tell me if you're in the West, Central or Eastern Washington.

YOu could get a loan with a much lower interest rate and pay it off yourself and save a lot of money. If you have some home equity and good credit you can do much better then that interest rate. Many of us would love to stay home with our children and really can't afford to...maybe you will need to increase your hours-or look for a weekend program...
