Hello, Florida nurses!! I am a student who is interested in living in Florida after school...does anyone has any inside track on the quality of life in southeast Florida?

I was looking at- Ft. Lauderdale, Coral Springs, somewhere convenient to Miami. My husband would rather live in Orlando, but is the crime bad? Or was that Tampa? I guess Orlando is ok, but it seems so far from Miami, where I would like to spend some time when I get days off. I am from NYC, so I like to live in a diverse area with different cultures, foods, etc.

I remember visiting Boca Raton a few years back-- I had a relative who had a friend there...a doctor. It looked so beautiful, but not very diverse. Does any nurse on this board live aroung there??

Thanks for answering my questions!!Any info will be appreciated!

I'm only a student, but I've lived in Florida my entire life.

Ft. Lauderdale is great, but I've heard that the cost of living is getting really high. Lots of culture and a very diverse community. Same for Miami. I grew up in S. Florida and I will always hold it close to my heart.

Orlando is a fun town, but you absolutely need to get away from the theme parks. Check out the downtown area. There are a lot of great neighborhoods that most tourists don't even get to see. Pay it a visit before you write it off completely.

Love Tampa/St. Pete. Lots of culture. Great performing arts halls. Lots of museums. Plus you have the beaches, which I love. I'm thinking of moving to that area when I finish school.

Hope some of this helped. I love living in Florida. For a long time I wanted to leave, but then realized how lucky I am to live in a state that's stays so warm all year long!

NE Florida here

Another from SW Florida here.

Only a student but lived in Boca since '98. Very diverse, very expensive, lower payscale than rest of the nation, unfriendly people, summers are unbearable. However, the winters are great. I'm heading back to the Northeast after I graduate. :)

Tampa Bay!!!!!Pays not the best but what a beautiful area!!!Im from N.Y and find the people to be very freindly here .Ive met some great people here.I love the water!!!Jobs are endless.

Specializes in Stroke Rehab, Elderly, Rehab. Ortho.

Hi,

I am not in Florida yet - hope to be within the next 12 months though. I have had a job offer in Deland but will be living in Davenport for the timebeing anyway.

Hoping to do my NCLEX around October time and get some more interviews under my belt by then. Any tips for me?

Thankx Sue :)

I'm a Florida nurse as well in Stuart ,Florida, on the treasure coast, for Martin Memorial Medical Center.

Its an interesting place to live.I am originally from Long Island but I had moved down here with my parents when i was in high school. Now I can't go back up north cause I married a British man who no longer wants to be in the cold!
