And here I am back again! I thought since you guys are a fountain of information for broken bones, that you could also help me with this one. I have found some stuff on the internet already, but maybe you guys have some good textbook titles and stuff that I could look up as well, or even additional websites, or personal tips. For my Focused Learning Plan, I have chosen the above topic, since the hospital I am doing my preceptorship at does a lot of these types of surguries. And so, if you guys could give me any kind of information, that would be great. I pretty much just need to research this topic to death...thanks so much!

Amanda, Back when I was in nursing school we didn't have the Internet. We spent HOURS in the library doing research BY OURSELVES! Please don't ask US to do your homework for you: #1.) It isn't the way you learn; and #2.) it isn't what we are here for. If you are in school, do the work yourself! Yes, we could spoon feed you, but we will not be there to take the Board exams for you!

PLEASE STUDENTS, DO NOT ABUSE THIS SITE! WE DON'T MIND YOU COMING HERE WITH REAL PROBLEMS; BUT WE DON'T DO HOMEWORK FOR YOU!!!

Wow, I found that reply a little bit over the top. She wasn't asking us to write the darn learning plan for her. Just for some advise on possible books and sources of information.

I didn't have the internet either when I was in nursing school, yes that might have made it a bit harder, on the other hand there was a lot less there to be processed. I find a lot of information that's available on the net not always very up to date.

So Amanda, please feel free to come here for help, and Jenny, we should stop eating our young and give them a little bit of help. If you don't want to, that's OK, but don't blast people like that.

So, I almost forgot, you wanted to know about supra pubic catheters after an anterior repair. I work in the OR, but my experience is that they don't put them in that much anymore. Very often they just use a regular foley or no cath at all, depending on how big the repair was.

What kind of info are you looking for?

Marijke;)

Marijke, I didn't think I was being too harsh. Panda has posted twice in 3 days asking for help with her papers. I AM helping students that need help, I just found it rather odd that she says she has 2 papers to do and asks for help with both of them in such a short period of time! That's the part that bothers me. I am more than willing to help students who are stuck; but I don't feel it is right to ask for help with both of her papers.

I don't mean to jump in here but when I saw the harsh reply to Panda I felt I had to.

I'm sorry for you *Jenny P* that you didn't have the Internet back in the day when you were going to school. I think the times have changed since the Internet has been intergrated into our everyday lives. I feel students could possibly be smarter because of it. Easy access with plenty of information can make for a good student, not to mention it's extremely convenient. Of course this is my opinion, and you may not agree but that won't stop me from voicing it, just as you are able to do so. I am sure she is well aware you won't be there when she takes the Board Exam. Did you ever stop to think a question answered here could possibly help her on that day? What's wrong with helping someone?

It's nice Panda can come here, ask questions and feel like she's part of a community of nice people who all seem to have something in common. I don't feel she should be put down or reprimanded for that, nor should she have received such snarkiness from you as a response. It really shouldn't matter how often she comes to this forum asking for help, you simply don't have to respond to her. Again, it is her right to do so.

Wildhoney, that's just my point. The Internet IS easy to use, so why make it even easier by spoon feeding the answers to her? Believe me, I am as willing to help students as the next person, but the blatency of her saying (in her other post) that she has *2* papers due this semseter, and then asking for help on both of them in less than 3 days is the part that bugs me! I seriously do help many students here and in real life; it's just that her obvious misuse of this BB is what makes me wonder if she's using any other resources at hand (ie: internet, library, etc.).

I want you to know I completely understand what you're saying because you do have a good point. My feeling here is simply that some people have an easier time and maybe she could be guided a bit differently. Trust me, plenty of things bug me too and sometimes I go off on people at work too (and at home).

Tell her, but don't snap at her. It seems like you have a lot to offer a young person. She obviously needs some guidance. I'm not saying devote all your time to her either. I just think her feelings may have been a little hurt by your presentation...that's all.

This is just my opinion and I really, really hope you don't take it the wrong way. : )

Wildhoney, I didn't think I was harsh when I wrote my first posting here; but now when I look at it, yeah, I guess I was. I was addressing the second paragraph (all in caps) to all students, not specifically Panda.

Sorry, Panda, didn't mean to bite your head off-- you can have it back now.:imbar  :imbar

Just want to let you know I saw your reply.

I'm tired. Have a good night/morning.

: )

May I refer you to the first post on this page concerning Workplace mobbing.... Regardless of the perceived abuse, the reply was classic "senior nurse" eating the young. Maybe she is just a bit green in the ways of research and asking for help. I learn as I teach after 27yrs. You and those who agreed with your response would benefit from some sensitivity training. Now come on folks, let's park the egos and act like real nurses!

Jenny,

Thank you for your last reply, I was glad to see it. Now lets get back to what this bulletin board is all about, does anybody have some info for Amanda?
